The Rota Vicentina consists of two marked routes: the Caminho Historico (Historical Way) and the Trilho dos Pescadores (Fisherman's Trail). The former links Santiago do Cacem on an inland route over rolling hills to Odeceixe before moving closer to the coast the rest of the way south to Cabo de Sao Vicente. The shorter Fisherman's Trail mostly sticks to breathtaking clifftops from Porto Covo down as far as Odeceixe. The author has also offered suggestions for shorter walks - including four, six and nine-day options, and has described four additional inland stages for those seeking a circuit option.
Walkers who appreciate sunny days, invigorating sea air, dramatic cliffs and awesome ocean scenery, not to mention fresh fish, charming guesthouses, mouth-watering traditional Portuguese cuisine and inimitable custard tarts will relish their time on the Rota Vicentina, and will no doubt be tempted back, time and time again.
